Pool events highlight this weekend’s slate

LEWISTOWN -- With the dog days of summer approaching, nothing is better than a few hours of splishing and splashing in the pool. There are two opportunities to do that on Saturday with two events.

They are just part of a weekend lineup of things to do in the Juniata Valley this weekend:

America250 Celebration at the Burnham Pool

Due to weather conditions, the America250 Splash Hop was rescheduled to Friday, from noon to 5 p.m. at the Burnham Community Pool, located at 200 First Ave., Burnham. Music, games, door prizes and refreshments will be available, along with a reptile show from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission is free for members and $2.50 for non-members.

Free Community Swim Night

Lewistown Alliance Church will host a Community Swim Night on Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rec Park Pool in Lewistown. Everyone is invited for a free evening of swimming. Food will be served.

Richfield Dutch Days

The 58th Annual Richfield Dutch Days will be held through Saturday at Basom Memorial Park in Richfield. This year the Richfield Fire Co. is celebrating its 100th year, along with America's 250th birthday. The Dutch menu will be served daily starting at 4:30 p.m. Today's menu includes pulled pork, scalloped potatoes and green beans; Friday: pork and sauerkraut; and Saturday: chicken barbecue. Live entertainment today: Jeff Krick, 7 and 10 p.m.; Friday: Erich Cawalla and the Uptown Band, 8 and 9:30 p.m.; Saturday: Adult Swim, 8:15 and 9:45 p.m. Rides by Sunshine Shows. Games for all. Free nightly drawing. A Skyshooter Display Fireworks will take place tonight at 10 p.m. Rain date is Friday. Chinese Auction held daily. Cornhole tournament on Friday at 7 p.m. with cash prizes. The 2025 Name Quilt will be auctioned off at 8 p.m. Saturday. The parade will step off on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the theme America250. Night Sky Watch at Greenwood Furnace

A Night Sky Watch will be held at Greenwood Furnace State Park in Huntingdon on Saturday, from 8 to 10 p.m. Join Bill Arden from the Central Pennsylvania Observers club for a telescope clinic and introductory presentation on astronomy followed by an outdoor night sky tour with an electronic telescope. If you have a telescope or binoculars, they'll help you set them up to use. Please bring a chair and flashlight as you'll head to the ballfield following the presentation.

Cruise and barbecue

Cruise 2026, supported by ABATE Jacks Mountain Riders and Touring Friends for the Veterans Memorial Community Pool is set for Sunday at the McClure Legion Post 942, 40 E. Ohio St., McClure. This event is rain or shine. Barbecue chicken will be available to purchase with halves at $6 and platters at $11. Platters include: half chicken, baked beans, macaroni salad and cake. Pick up is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Ride begins at the American Legion, with kickstands up at 1 p.m. All donations benefit the pool.
