Man charged with animal cruelty

BEAVER SPRINGS -- A 72-year-old Middleburg man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly killing a feral cat in Beaver Township, Snyder County.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers responded to an animal cruelty call July 24 on Kissimmee Road after an eyewitness reported the incident. George Leach was identified as the suspect, and a summary animal cruelty charge was filed through District Court 17-3-04 with assistance from the Snyder County District Attorney’s Office.

Driver uninjured after striking deer

McOYSVILLE -- A 17-year-old Honey Grove driver escaped injury after striking a deer July 23 on Route 75 in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the teen was traveling south near 15817 Route 75 South when a deer entered the roadway. The Chevrolet Traverse struck the animal before leaving the roadway and sustaining disabling front-end damage. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not cited.
