Charges pending against area man for theft, drugs

LEWISTOWN — Charges are pending against Levi T. Ryder, 30, address unknown, after Lewistown Police Department officers located him wearing a stolen pair of shoes and later found drug paraphernalia in his backpack. Police were called at 2:48 p.m. June 25 to the laundry facility at 205 S. Main St. for a theft suspect. A day earlier, a white male had reportedly taken $120 shoes from a porch on Marble Street. Ryder was found at the laundromat wearing the stolen shoes and admitted taking them. Officers asked about a second theft in the same area. Ryder allowed them to search his backpack. No additional stolen property was found, but officers located methamphetamine pipes, scales, containers with residue and other paraphernalia. Ryder was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft-related charges are pending.

Police find toddler in street unsupervised

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers located a 2-year-old child wandering in the middle of the intersection at North Grand and West Fourth streets at 12:26 p.m. June 26, according to a release issued Thursday. No adult was supervising the child. After a few minutes, while officers attempted to determine where the child belonged, an adult male arrived and claimed the child, telling police he had been in the bathroom when the child went outside.

The case was referred to the district attorney’s office, which declined to prosecute the supervising adult.

Area man cited for public drunkenness at grocery store

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers cited an area man for public drunkenness after responding to a grocery store on South Dorcas Street for an intoxicated subject causing a disturbance at 7:41 p.m. June 26, according to a release issued Thursday. Police say the man was yelling at customers, performing martial arts in the parking lot and refusing to leave. He had scattered bags and food containers around the area and began punching the air when management asked him to go. Officers located Sean A. Jackson, 60, no fixed address, who was tucking a bottle of liquor into his sock when they arrived. Jackson was found to be intoxicated, told officers he had nowhere local to go and asked for a ride to Pittsburgh. He was lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown and cited for public drunkenness.

Police investigating hit-and-run at local convenience store

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers are investigating a hit-and-run accident after a large white deisel truck towing a tractor trailer struck a gas pump at a convenience store at 403 E. Walnut St., Lewistown, at 6:20 a.m. on June 27, according to a release issued on Thursday. Police said the driver left without notifying the business. Officers are awaiting surveillance footage to identify the driver or vehicle owner.

Officers arrest area man for pair of outstanding warrants

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department’s narcotics officer took Tyler R. Kenepp, 37, of Lewistown, into custody on a warrant after seeing him get into a vehicle at 12:05 p.m. July 1, according to a release issued Thursday. Officers stopped the vehicle on South Pine Street at Pannebaker Avenue. Police say the driver had a suspended license and the vehicle’s inspection was expired. The vehicle was blocking traffic in a no parking area and was towed.

LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Police Department’s Narcotics Investigator took Tyler R. Kenepp, 37, of Lewistown, into custody on a warrant after observing him get into a vehicle at 12:05 p.m. July 1, according to a release issued Thursday. Officers stopped the vehicle on South Pine Street at Pannebaker Avenue. The driver had a suspended license and the vehicle’s inspection was expired. The vehicle was blocking traffic in a no-parking area and was towed.

Kenepp was lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown.

Officers assist in fire rescue at West Market Street blaze

LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Department Police officers and fire crews rescued three people from an apartment fire at 139 W. Market St. in Lewistown at 10:02 p.m. on July 1, according to a release issued Thursday. Police say residents were guided out or helped escape through a window onto a ladder. A PSP Fire Marshal investigated and determined the fire started when a resident placed a lit cigarette in an ashtray on the couch armrest, then stepped into the bathroom for several minutes. When the resident returned, the couch was on fire.
