McCLURE -- One man was killed and another seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday evening in McClure Borough, according to Middleburg police.
Middleburg Police said officers responded to the crash on state Route 522, just north of the Forbes Street intersection. The driver, Ronald S. Whitman Jr., 31, of Winfield, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Clinton T. Muir, 32, of Tyrone, was flown by medical helicopter to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for treatment.
The crash occurred just after 5:30 p.m.
The investigation determined the vehicle rapidly accelerated from the Specht Street intersection before losing traction. The vehicle spun, rolled down an embankment and ejected both occupants, police said.
Middleburg police were assisted at the scene by McClure, Beaver Springs, Beavertown and Middleburg fire and EMS companies. PennDOT established a detour while Route 522 was closed for about an hour.
