From staff reports

McCLURE — A local man is facing felony weapons and drug charges after probation officers and Pennsylvania State Police allegedly found firearms, drugs and drug paraphernalia during a home compliance check.

Nicholas Russell Hensel, 49, of 95 Old Peach Road, was charged with persons not to possess firearms, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8 before Magisterial District Judge Eric Ettinger.

According to an affidavit filed by Pennsylvania State Police, troopers assisted Mifflin County Adult Probation officers with a home check at Hensel’s residence on June 24. Police said Hensel had failed to report for his initial probation meeting and was the subject of an active NCIC warrant for failure to appear in a DUI case.

During the search, authorities allegedly found four long guns, a sawed-off shotgun with a 14-inch barrel, a bag containing an unknown white powder, THC wax and 23 items of suspected drug paraphernalia, including syringes, smoking devices, a grinder, rolling papers, baggies and a scale. The THC wax later tested positive for marijuana, according to court documents.

Police said Hensel was prohibited from possessing firearms because of a prior qualifying conviction. He was taken into custody and lodged in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility. Court records show his bail was set at o $100,000 unsecured by order of Judge Ettinger.
