Juniata County commissioners move meetings to twice monthly
MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata County Commissioners will move from weekly public meetings to twice-monthly meetings beginning in July.
The Juniata County Board of Commissioners announced Tuesday that its public meetings will be held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, effective July 1. The announcement came during a brief meeting at the Bousum Building in Mifflintown.
No one spoke during public comment, and the board moved quickly through its agenda.
Commissioners accepted the resignation of April Yoder from the Domestic Relations Office, effective at the close of business July 3. They also accepted the resignation of Matthew Walters as chair of the Juniata Appeals Board, effective at the close of business June 23.
The board approved an increase in compensation for appeals board members who handle reassessment appeals. The daily rate rose from $100 to $150.
Commissioners also approved a contract with Sky’s The Limit Tree Service for tree trimming around the courthouse.
The board approved several human services agreements, including purchase of service agreements for Juniata County Children and Youth Services with Alternative Living Solutions, Mifflin Juniata Human Services and Youth Services Agency.
Alternative Living Solutions will provide child welfare services from July 1 through June 30, 2027. Mifflin Juniata Human Services will implement the Juniata County Communities That Care grant.
The board also approved two translator agreements through the Youth Services Agency. Zashelle Florentino will be paid $25 per hour, and Martha Bowersox will be paid $65 per hour. Both agreements run from July 1 through June 30, 2027.
Commissioners approved Human Services Development Fund agency contracts for Mifflin Juniata Human Services for the 2026-27 allocation.
The contracts include Clear Concepts Counseling for inmate drug and alcohol counseling, shelter services, county administrative services, service coordination and the Abuse Network.
The board ratified payment of two Juniata County hazardous material checks, including $763.80 to Fayette Trailers LLC and $13,076.80 to the Juniata County General Fund.
Commissioners also approved tax exonerations for Spruce Hill Township, according to material provided to the board.
The board ratified and approved payments submitted by the fiscal office. The payments included checks 78912 through 78967 totaling $137,350.86 and checks 78968 through 79064 totaling $70,189.97.
Combined, the fiscal office payments totaled $207,540.83.
Under the new schedule, the next regular public meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, followed by another meeting on Tuesday, July 28.
