Regional police respond to more than 600 incidents

LEWISTOWN -- The Mifflin County Regional Police Department responded to 602 incidents during June, according to monthly statistics released Monday.

Among those incidents were 17 burglary, theft or fraud investigations, four assaults and 33 motor vehicle crashes. Officers also issued 124 traffic citations, five non-traffic citations and 35 warnings during the month.

Police reported making eight arrests for driving under the influence in June. The department serves Burnham Borough and Brown, Derry and Union townships.

Free health screeningsplanned in Mifflintown

MIFFLINTOWN -- Free health and community wellness screenings will be offered Aug. 13-15 at Beward Pharmacy in Mifflintown.

The screenings coincide with the opening of the new Matilda Clinic, which will be recognized during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Aug. 13.

The clinic will provide walk-in urgent care and chronic disease management for area residents. The free screenings are open to the community throughout the three-day event.
