LEWISTOWN -- A proposal to build a data center in Granville Township has been rejected because it did not include a required traffic impact study certification, according to township Manager Mary Herto.
The decision comes amid developers postponing a town hall meeting that had been scheduled for today to discuss the proposed project.
In a letter posted Monday on the township's website, Herto notified the developer's legal counsel, Andrew J. Giorgione, that the conditional use application was incomplete.
Herto said the proposal lacked the certification required as part of the township's traffic impact study. Under the township's zoning ordinance, the certification is required with the application and cannot be submitted later, she wrote.
Because the application was incomplete, Herto said the township is returning the filing fee. The developer must submit a new application before the proposal can move forward.
If the township receives a complete conditional use application, the Board of Supervisors must begin hearings within 60 days.
Herto also notified the developer that supervisors have adopted a data center ordinance establishing standards for future projects. The ordinance addresses issues including water use, noise, energy demand, environmental impacts, emergency services and public participation in the approval process.
Separately, developers notified the township they would "not be able to attend" the town hall meeting that had been scheduled for today and said they would be in touch "soon" to discuss a new meeting date.
The next Granville Township supervisors meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the Granville Township Municipal Building.
