LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County’s emergency management and correctional operations have earned high marks from state agencies, with recent reviews finding no deficiencies at the county jail and commending the county’s emergency preparedness efforts.
Commissioners highlighted the evaluations during Thursday’s meeting, sharing findings from reviews conducted by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
Commissioner Rob Postal read from a PEMA report that concluded Mifflin County is “working diligently with notable success” to provide a system of emergency preparedness designed to protect life and property from a variety of hazards.
“Mifflin County is commended for these activities,” Postal said while reading from the report.
Postal also discussed the results of a Pennsylvania Department of Corrections inspection of the Mifflin County Correctional Facility.
According to the report, inspectors found no deficiencies or citations. The report credited Warden Jason Kermanek and correctional facility staff for operating the facility in accordance with statewide correctional standards.
“Staff at the correctional facility should be proud of their accomplishments and are encouraged to maintain this level of compliance,” the report stated.
Postal said the reports serve as reminders of the quality work being performed daily by county employees.
“Sometimes we overlook the good work that some of the departments are doing,” he said. “Our employees do good work every day serving the county. This is just two examples of outsiders, third parties, commending the performance of two of these departments.”
The commissioners’ next meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, July 16, at the Mifflin County Courthouse in Lewistown.
