LEWISTOWN -- The Lewistown Borough Council discussed open bids for its upcoming alley paving project in addition to other business on Monday.
Borough Manager Julie Brooks shared the bids from contractors including Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc.; Grannas Brothers, and Big Rock Construction Group that the borough received for the project.
The street committee will review the open bids before making any final decisions.
The bids from the three contractors include full sections and portions of five different alleys:

In the absence of council Vice President Robert Barlett and councilwoman Lisa Knudson, the borough council also added a recommendation to approve and sign a contract for a school resource officer.
Council members then approved the contract after Lewistown Police Department Chief of Police David Clemens explained that the Mifflin County School District had already approved it.
Following a lengthy executive session, the council, in the absence of councilman Larry Searer, reconvened and approved to hire a refuse thrower and approved an alternate candidate pending interview results.
Council then approved a part-time officer position for the Lewistown Police Department pending a background check.
The borough council will next meet at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the Lewistown Municipal Building.
