REEDSVILLE -- A 14-week aviation ground school will return to the Mifflin County Airport this fall after strong interest in previous classes, organizers announced.
Sponsored by Chapter 518 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the course will begin Wednesday, Sept. 16, and will meet one evening each week, except during holidays. Instruction will be provided by a certified flight instructor.
The course is designed for aspiring pilots, as well as licensed pilots looking to refresh their knowledge or improve their skills.
Students will learn the requirements for earning a pilot certificate, prepare for the Federal Aviation Administration’s written exam and receive guidance on registering with the FAA and applying for a student pilot certificate.
Participants also will have access to EAA Chapter 518’s FAA-certified Redbird flight simulator to supplement classroom instruction.
The Experimental Aircraft Association covers the instructor’s fee. Students are responsible only for purchasing the required textbook and course materials, which cost about $185. Organizers said family members attending together are encouraged to share materials to reduce expenses. Classes will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays at the EAA Chapter 518 clubhouse in Building 4 at the Mifflin County Airport, 547 Airport Road, Reedsville.
Class size is limited, and registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Preregistration is required by Aug. 31.
