From staff reports
LEWISTOWN — MC3 Church hosted a block party Saturday on Depot Street to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Shelter Service Inc. and its decades of service to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Located on Depot Street, Shelter Service provides housing assistance to residents of Mifflin, Juniata and Huntingdon counties.
Organizers said the agency housed about 100 individuals annually when it began operating 40 years ago. Today, Shelter Service assists more than 200 people each year, with demand continuing to grow.
Officials credited the support of local residents, churches and businesses for helping sustain the organization’s mission over the past four decades.
