Driver charged after alleged DUI crash into hotel
McVeytown — A 60-year-old McVeytown woman is facing charges after allegedly crashing into the Wayne Hotel while performing donuts in the parking lot Thursday evening.
According to Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown, Laurie A. Atherton was operating a 2005 Toyota Tacoma at about 6:43 p.m. June 25 when she lost control while driving in the parking lot of the Wayne Hotel along U.S. 522 in Wayne Township, striking the building before fleeing the scene.
Police later made contact with Atherton and conducted field sobriety tests, which indicated signs of impairment. Charges are pending through District Judge Kent Smith’s office.
Probation check leads to firearm, drug charges
McCLURE — A McClure man is facing charges after firearms, drugs and drug paraphernalia were allegedly discovered during a probation compliance check.
Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown said members of the Mifflin County Adult Probation Office conducted a home check June 24 at a residence on Old Peach Road in Decatur Township.
During the search, Nicholas Hensel, 49, was allegedly found to be in possession of firearms, controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. Charges were filed through District Judge Kent Smith’s office.
Man charged after DUI crash
MIFFLINTOWN — A Mifflintown man is facing DUI charges following a single-vehicle crash June 20 in Juniata County.
State police said Abdoul K. Moussa, 46, was traveling west on Arch Rock Road when his Chrysler 300 failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, struck a guardrail and utility pole before coming to rest off the roadway.
Moussa, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital. DUI charges will be filed through District Judge Tracy Powell’s office.
Teen uninjured in
Walker Township crash
PORT ROYAL — A 17-year-old Perry County driver was uninjured after a single-vehicle crash June 25 on William Penn Highway.
According to state police, the GMC Canyon left the roadway, struck a utility pole and then a tree before coming to rest off the roadway. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured.
The vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed.
Fraudulent check investigated
McALISTERVILLE — Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after an 84-year-old Millerstown woman reported a fraudulent check written in her name.
Police said the check totaled $2,160.72. The incident remains under investigation.
Pickup hydroplanes during storm
McALISTERVILLE — No injuries were reported after a pickup truck hydroplaned through standing water during a storm June 22.
According to state police, a Ford F-150 traveling on Route 235 near East Salem Road left the roadway after hydroplaning, clipped a road sign and came to a controlled stop.
The truck sustained functional damage.
Driver cited after falling asleep at wheel
RICHFIELD — A Richfield man was cited after allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel and leaving the scene of a crash June 25.
State police said Timothy Freed, 20, was driving on Pine Swamp Road when his Volkswagen Passat failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a tree.
A passerby reported the crash. Freed was later located nearby and cited through district court.
Driver sought in hit-and-run
RICHFIELD — State police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred June 27 on North Susquehanna Trail at Roosevelt Avenue.
Police said an unidentified driver rear-ended a stopped Kia Sportage driven by Kimberly D. Allen, 40, of Mifflin. Allen and her 18-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son were not injured.
The striking driver fled the scene.
