MIFFLINTOWN — Juniata County 911 dispatched Mifflintown Hose Co. Sunday at 1:27 a.m. for a residential building fire at 1683 William Penn Highway.
According to Mifflintown Assistant Chief Steven Groninger, he was advised upon response that the fire was reported as at least two to three vehicles or structures as multiple calls came in with conflicting information.
Upon Groninger’s arrival he reported two campers were fully engulfed with extension into a garage and possibly a mobile home.
Upon arrival of initial units, firefighters began to fight the fire in the campers and the garage. Due to access issues combined with high heat and zero visibility in the garage firefighters were forced to drop back to the doorway.
As additional firefighters from other companies arrived, the garage became fully engulfed in flames in what firefighters call a flashover. This issue resulted in crews cutting the garage bay door down to make access.

Groninger reported that the homeowner was able to escape the home with minor injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS.
Groninger did have the American Red Cross contacted to assist the homeowner and turned the investigation over to the fire marshal from the Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown.
Three campers were total losses along with the garage and extension into the mobile home. Units operated well into the early morning with extensive overhaul.
Assisting Mifflintown at the scene were Friendship Fire Co., Fayette Fire Co., Beale Township Fire Co., Thompsontown Fire Co., Yeagertown Fire Co., City Hook & Ladder, Junction Fire Co., Heritage Fire Co., Central Juniata EMS, and Pennsylvania State Police.
