June is National Dairy Month
Juniata County Dairy Promotion
Juniata County Dairy Princess Jena Rissler.
Hello from Dairy Princess Jena Rissler. I am writing my first newspaper article as the 2026-2027 Juniata County Dairy Princess. I was crowned on Sunday May 3. At my crowning, the county was given a proclamation from Russell Redding, PA Secretary of Agriculture, congratulating us for 50 years of promoting the Dairy industry.
June is National Dairy Month. We met with the county commissioners and have made a proclamation for this as well. The proclamation is as follows:
WHEREAS, June is National Dairy Month; and
WHEREAS, Dairy products provide more than 70% of the calcium in the American food supply; and
WHEREAS, The first dairy cow came to the New World in 1611 and helped end starvation in Jamestown; and
WHEREAS, Dairy cows provide 90% of the world’s milk; and
WHEREAS, Milk is the only major crop harvested daily-as in two or three times a day; and
WHEREAS, Dairy farmers have a 365-day a year job; now
THEREFORE, I Jena Rissler, the 2026-2027 Juniata County Dairy Princess, along with the Juniata County Commissioners in recognition of this event, do hereby proclaim the month of June as Dairy Month.
Things that I’m looking forward to doing this year are going into the elementary schools, grocery stores and the county fair to teach kids, teens and adults about dairy. And just a reminder that you need three servings of dairy each day whether it’s milk, cheese or ice cream.
