Submit memories for ‘I Remember When’ 2026

LEWISTOWN — The Sentinel’s “I Remember When” special edition for 2026 will soon be published. This year, we are highlighting memories of

“favorite summer traditions.” Picnics, ballgames, family reunions, vacations with family and friends, fireworks, parties, amusement parks, carnivals, drives in the country, memories of the swimming hole and anything else that sparks a favorite summer memory is what we are accepting.

Share your memories (written or photo). If you have a story, memory or photo from days gone by that you would like to share, we would like to hear from you.

If you would like to submit an article or photo, please follow these guidelines:

Email submissions preferred.

Jpeg images preferred.

Include image details (names, locations, dates if possible) and a description of the event/memory.

Note: Details and brief articles must be included in the body of the email or as an attachment in Word document format. Images must be personal photos (Cannot be from websites or other publications or an image that would violate copyright laws).

State prisons to host job fair in Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON — The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections will host a job fair June 9 at State Correctional Institution Huntingdon for positions at both State Correctional Institution Huntingdon and State Correctional Institution Smithfield.

The event will be held from noon to 6 p.m. at SCI Huntingdon, 1100 Pike St., Huntingdon.

Both facilities are hiring corrections officer trainees and filling additional positions in multiple fields. The minimum age to apply for a corrections officer trainee position is 18.

Officials noted the department has obtained a waiver of Pennsylvania’s residency requirement, allowing recruitment of qualified applicants from neighboring states.

No appointment or registration is required. Attendees are encouraged to apply before arriving. On-site interviews for corrections officer trainee positions will be conducted during the event, and applicants should bring two forms of identification.
