Hay for the occasion

EAST WATERFORD – It’s America’s 250th anniversary. Did you really think Kendra Swartz was going to miss out?

The East Waterford mom painted three bales of hay patriotically for the occasion – red, white and blue.

“My love for painting bales has struck again,” said Swartz in a post directed at the Fourth of July. “I couldn’t let America turn 250 years old without honoring it with some bales!”

Over the years, Swartz has become known for her holiday creations. Now, he can add America’s semiquincentennial to her list.

In 2013, Kendra began spray painting the hay bales for the holidays. She came up with the designs for mainly Halloween and Christmas. She also has done Easter over the years.

The hay bale decorations remain there for about a month. “That’s about how long the paint lasts,” Kendra said.

Taking them down is also fairly easy. “I just pull off the paint and put it in the compost pile,” she added. “The rest of the bale gets used as bedding for the cows.”

Passersby frequently stop to take photos of the displays and sometimes pose with them.

Starting at $3.75/week.
