Geisinger names Pallis chair of Musculoskeletal Institute
Mark Pallis
DANVILLE — Geisinger has appointed Dr. Mark Pallis as chair of its Musculoskeletal Institute, removing the interim designation he has held since July 2025.
Pallis joined Geisinger in 2019 and most recently served as interim chair of the institute.
“We conducted an extensive national search, but it was abundantly clear that the right person was already with us,” said Dr. Alfred Casale, Geisinger’s chief medical officer for surgical services. “Mark is an accomplished orthopaedic surgeon and a collaborative, results-oriented healthcare leader.”
According to Geisinger, Pallis previously served as the Musculoskeletal Institute’s Northeast regional director, overseeing several major projects, including the construction of an 80,000-square-foot musculoskeletal clinic in Scranton and an $80 million clinic and surgery center in Pittston. The health system also expanded its Northeast orthopaedic training program during his tenure.
Earlier this year, six Geisinger hospitals were recognized as Blue Cross and Blue Shield Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care in orthopaedic surgery, a designation awarded under Pallis’ leadership.
Pallis also serves as a professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Geisinger School of Medicine and is a fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association.
“It’s an honor to be named the chair of Geisinger’s Musculoskeletal Institute, and I look forward to continuing the work to provide the best orthopaedic care to our communities,” Pallis said in a statement. “I have dedicated my career to helping patients, and I will continue that mission for this department to provide high-quality, patient-centered care to every patient we see.”
A combat veteran and retired Army colonel, Pallis held several leadership positions during his military career, including chair of orthopaedics and deputy commander at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. He also served as the orthopaedic surgery consultant to the U.S. Army surgeon general.
