BELLEVILLE — A Mifflin County nonpublic school is among the recipients of state funding aimed at improving school safety, security and student mental health resources, according to an announcement from state Sen. Judy Ward.

Ward, R-30, announced that more than $608,000 in grants have been awarded to nonpublic schools throughout the 30th Senatorial District through Pennsylvania’s Targeted School Safety for Nonpublic Schools program.

Among the recipients is Belleville Christian School in Mifflin County, which will receive funding to support school safety and security initiatives.

In neighboring Juniata County, Pyramid Healthcare Inc. – Soaring Heights School in Mifflintown was also awarded funding through the program.

“Providing students and educators with safe, secure learning environments is essential to academic success and community well-being,” Ward said.

“These grants will help schools throughout the 30th District strengthen security measures, expand access to mental health resources and better prepare for potential safety threats. I am pleased to see this funding invested in our local schools to help protect students and staff.”

Additional grants were awarded to several schools and organizations in Blair County, including multiple campuses of Bishop Guilfoyle Academy, Merakey Pennsylvania facilities in Altoona and East Freedom, Pyramid Healthcare’s Soaring Heights School in Altoona and St. Matthew Church.

The Targeted School Safety for Nonpublic Schools program provides funding to help schools address school violence, improve security measures and support student mental health initiatives. Funding may also be awarded to municipalities, law enforcement agencies and approved third-party school security providers that serve public and nonpublic schools.

The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency.

Starting at $2.99/week.
