America250PA celebration hits Juniata County

More than 300 visitors attended Generations Day at the Tuscarora Academy Museum last weekend.

MCALISTERVILLE — This won’t be your average birthday party. After all, this is an event to celebrate No. 250 for the US of A.

The America 250PA Juniata County Celebration is set for Saturday in McAlisterville Park in McAlisterville from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will be history, music, food, colonial demonstrations, dancing, Native American presentations, reenactors, family activities, contests, fireworks at 9:30 p.m. and more!

While this event certainly captures our patriotic flair, there are other things to do in the area. Here’s a glance:

Beavertown Museum features new display

A new sign and brick memorial path were added since the Tuscarora Academy Museum closed last year.

The Beavertown Historical Society Museum will be open Sundays, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Beavertown Borough building at 111 W. Walnut St., Beavertown. Their feature display will be “Celebrations and Events” held in Beavertown over the years.

Tuscarora Academy Museum opens for summer

The Tuscarora Academy Museum in Mifflin, operated by the Juniata County Historical Society, is now open Sundays through August, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The museum’s exhibits offer a glimpse into the county’s diverse past, featuring artifacts from general stores, post offices, banks, hotels, doctors, schools, churches, the military, carpenters, farmers, blacksmiths, creameries, and everyday family life.

• Friday Night Music Series featuring Katz22, 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Juniata Valley Winery, 19175 Route 35, Mifflin;

• Cody Ross Smith, 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Hungry Run Distillery, 10 Ridens Road, Lewistown;

• Beka Jones, 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Hungry Run Distillery, 10 Ridens Road, Lewistown;

• The Enlisted Band, 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Burnt Timbers Winery, 45 Fisher Bee Lane, Granville;

• Mike Yeaney, 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Seven Mountains Wine Cellars, 324 Decker Valley Road, Spring Mills.

Seafood and chicken dinner and auction

McAlisterville Park hosts this benefit dinner and auction on Friday, from 3 to 9 p.m. Take out starts at 3 p.m., buffet dinner at 4 p.m. and auction around 5 p.m. Bring something, buy something. Playtimes and festivals

• Get Outdoors Day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Whipple Dam State Park, Petersburg. Join park staff and PA master naturalists to enjoy a day of outdoor recreation. Participants will have the opportunity to try out various activities including fishing, kayaking, geocaching, map and compass and more! All equipment will be provided. This event is free and open to all ages and skill levels. Registration is not required.

• Evendale Festival, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Evendale Community Park, 3237 Middle Road, Richfield. Come join them in celebrating 35 years of community, music, food and fun. Live music featuring Adult Swim. Cakewalks and steam engine rides held throughout the day, along with Richfield Fire Co. demonstration, raspberry pie contest, kid’s games, magic show with Richard Benninghoff on the main stage and fireworks at 9:30 p.m.

• Playtime in the Park, hosted by TIU 11 Early Childhood Services, 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. Friday: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Mifflintown Park (beside Juniata County Library); and 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Haldeman Park. Planting seeds and handing out freeze pops.

• Community Carnival, hosted by Heaven Bound Church, 25 S. Ridge Road, Mifflintown, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Bounce houses, games, crafts, community fun, treats and more. Free admission and all are welcome to attend.

Youth fishing tournament

Third Annual Blaise Alexander Subaru of Lewistown Youth Trout Tournament, 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Kish Park Pond, Kish Park.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. and tournament starts at 8 a.m. Free for ages 14 and under.

Free movie night

Join Reedsville United Methodist Church, 82 E. Logan St., Reedsville, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday for a free movie night with “Grace Unplugged.” Grace is a Christian teen struggling to find her own way in life. Against the wishes of her overly protective father, she runs away from home to chase her musical dreams. While her father puts his faith in God to watch over his daughter, only Grace can decide if she will take the road leading to fame and fortune … or will she find her way back to her faith and family? Refreshments served. All are welcome!
