LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council discussed updating facility use forms among other business at its Monday meeting.
In a roll call vote, the council approved waiving fees for Mifflin County Soccer Club photos to be taken at the community center on Aug. 23, and for the St. Vincent De Paul yard sale at the community center at a reduced rate of $250 from $675.
Before this approval, councilman Scott Gutshall said, “I don’t have a problem giving them a rate reduction either. But I think that we need to be very consistent in the rate reductions for nonprofits.”
Because the initial rate reductions differed before the council approved the same rate for both events, council members agreed to discuss updating the facility use form rate reductions at its law and ordinance committee meeting as a condition for approving the rate reductions.
The borough council also approved a reduced facility use street closure fee of $45 for the Lewistown Community Band’s “Let Freedom Ring” concert on June 27 at the Historic Courthouse, with a rain date on June 28.
Council then waived fees for a Mifflin County Library summer reading program on July 22 in a large pavilion at Rec Park and for a pavilion for a Bethel AME Church bible school program on June 3, June 10, June 17, and June 24.
The borough council also:
• Approved a handicapped parking spot on 140 Valley Street;
• Approved the removal of two parking spaces at 45 Valley St. with Borough Council President Matthew Moore, councilman Larry Searer, and councilman Gutshall against the motion;
• Approved a curb cut request at 217 S. Main Street at no cost to the borough.
Further information regarding the Monday council meeting will be available in a future edition of The Sentinel.
