Work on Jacksonville Road project to resume Monday
From staff reports
BELLEFONTE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that work on its Jacksonville Road betterment project will resume Monday.
The project will reconstruct and widen the roadway along Route 26 between the Interstate 80 interchanges at Bellefonte (Exit 161) and Jacksonville (Exit 163). It is a companion to the high-speed connector linking I-80 and I-99 and is aimed at improving freight movement and travel reliability in the region.
Beginning Monday, crews will start grading, paving side roads and tying in driveways. Flaggers will control traffic during daylight hours between the I-80 westbound interchange and Walt Road. Motorists may experience delays, particularly when turning onto side roads or driveways along Route 26.
Additional impacts are expected starting Wednesday, April 23, when paving operations begin on Route 26 in the same area. Daytime flagging will continue, and drivers are urged to use caution, watch for slow or stopped vehicles, and obey posted speed limits and work zone signage.
The project includes widening travel lanes and shoulders, reconstructing the roadway, improving drainage, installing guiderails and completing other miscellaneous work. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. is serving as the contractor on the $8.6 million job.
PennDOT expects the project to be completed in fall 2026. All work is weather dependent.
Motorists can check traffic conditions and delays through the 511PA system, which provides updates on road conditions, weather and traffic cameras statewide.
