Inmate charged with furnishing controlled substance contraband
LEWISTOWN — Cole Garrett Smith, 33, of Derry Township who is incarcerated at the Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown, is being charged with furnishing controlled substance contraband to confined persons after his cellmate tested positive for opioid medication and admitting receiving buprenorphine from Smith at noon on March 26, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Thursday. LPD officers were dispatched because an inmate was distributing buprenorphine, an opioid medication, the report said, and jail staff suspected Smith of “cheeking,” or concealing his medication in his cheek, in order to distribute it to other inmates. Staff had been monitoring Smith, the report said, and he was confronted by staff after being observed “cheeking” then swallowing the pill. Staff administered a urine drug test to Smith’s cell mate, the report said, and this inmate was not prescribed the medication. The cell mate tested positive for buprenorphine, the report said, and the cell mate who admitted to receiving it from Smith.
E-bicyclist transported to hospital for treatment after crash
LEWISTOWN — An unidentified Yeagertown resident reportedly struck a pot hole and lost control of their electric bicycle on the 500 block of Valley Street in Lewistown and was transported by emergency medical services for treatment at the hospital at 12:18 p.m. on March 26, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Thursday. The subject had facial injuries and abrasions all over their body from contact with the roadway, the report said.
E-bicyclist crashes into back of vehicles, flees the scene
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers were dispatched to West Fifth Street at Bratton Avenue in Lewistown for a hit and run at 6:47 p.m. on March 26, according to a release issued on Friday. The report said a juvenile, who was wearing all black clothing and a black ski mask, on an e-bike ran into the back of a motorist’s vehicle at the intersection. The juvenile caused minor damage then fled from the scene, the report said, and the caller was concerned for the juvenile’s well-being. Police said the subject could not be located.
Police assist EMS with individual who fell off patio
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers responded to Central Avenue in Lewistown at 10:58 a.m. on March 30 to assist emergency medical services for a report of a subject who fell approximately 20 feet off a patio, according to a release issued on Thursday. The subject had lower back pain, the report said, and officers assisted loading the subject onto a stretcher and they were transported by EMS to the hospital.
Granville man charged with possession of drug paraphernalia
LEWISTOWN — A 19-year-old Granville man was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 10:43 p.m. on March 30 after Lewistown Police Department officers found him to be in possession of a marijuana grinder that contained marijuana, according to a release issued by the Lewistown Police Department on Thursday. Officers stopped a vehicle on South Wayne Street at Charles Street in Lewistown due to the registration being suspended for insurance cancellation, the report said, the driver, Ian R. Lohman, was found to be in possession the grinder.
Police respond to Pine Court for two subjects overdosing on drugs
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers responded to Pine Court in Lewistown for two subjects allegedly overdosing on drugs at 11:12 p.m. on March 30, according to a release issued on Thursday. Officers located a syringe and a piece of foil with drug residue next to one subject, the report said, and EMS responded and provided aid to the patients. These subjects were transported to the hospital by EMS, the report said, and the overdose was non-fatal. Police spoke with a subject who received a call from a third party stating subjects were overdosing, the report said, this person was driven to the residence and attempted to administer Narcan. The third party caller and another subject fled the residence, the report said, and no criminal charges resulted from this initial call as the statutory violations fell within amnesty laws regarding drug overdoses. Officers cleared the scene but were called back at 12:07 a.m. for a report of multiple subjects fighting and a female seen running away, the report said, officers located this female who was identified as Natasha M. Heiss, 31, of Lewistown. Heiss was very emotional and she began emptying a backpack that contained several containers of Narcan and a pouch that contained two glass meth pipes, the report said, and Hess was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Lewistown man arrested for active warrant from prothonotary’s office
LEWISTOWN — Lewistown Police Department officers observed James L. Hamby Jr., 48, of Lewistown, walking on South Pine Street at the intersection of Valley Street in Lewistown at 9:40 p.m. on March 31, according to a release issued on March 31. Hamby had an active warrant from the prothonotary’s office, the report said, and Hamby was taken into custody and transported to Mifflin County Correctional Facility in Lewistown where he was lodged on his warrant.
