PennDOT outlines road work plans for coming week in Mifflin County
From staff reports
LEWISTOWN — Motorists in Mifflin County can expect lane restrictions and traffic control on several roadways as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation carries out maintenance projects during the week of April 13.
Bridge maintenance and cleaning are scheduled along Route 522 from Monday through Wednesday, followed by similar work on Route 2002 (Freedom Avenue/Vira Road/Old Stage Road) on Thursday and Friday. Crews will work at various bridges along each route, with flaggers directing traffic during daylight hours. Pilot vehicles may also be used, and drivers are advised not to pass them.
Additional work will focus on crack sealing and hot pour mastic operations, which are aimed at preventing water from entering road surfaces and causing deterioration. This work is planned on Route 4004 (Front Mountain Road/Middle Road) from Monday through Thursday between the Huntingdon-Mifflin County line and Route 4007 (Wills Road), and on Route 4002 on Friday.
Shoulder maintenance is also scheduled throughout the week on Route 1002 (Honey Creek Road), between East Tony Street in Brown Township and Hostetler Quarry Road in Armagh Township. The work is intended to improve drainage and roadway safety by removing debris and stabilizing shoulder areas.
PennDOT officials said the projects are part of ongoing efforts to maintain aging infrastructure and extend the life of roadways and bridges.
