Council introduces its new borough manager
Official leads first CDBG hearing of 2026
LEWISTOWN — The Lewistown Borough Council introduced the new borough manager at Monday’s meeting in addition to other business.
The council hired Borough Manager Julie Brooks after an executive session at last month’s council meeting.
Brooks shared Monday that she began working with the borough about a month ago and is “really happy to have this opportunity to serve the residents of this beautiful community.”
Brooks said that, as part of her background, she has a master’s degree in public administration, a certificate in public budget and finance, and years of experience in municipal work.
She added that she has a certificate in water and wastewater from the Department of Environmental Protection in addition to years of experience working with the department.
“I look forward to hitting the ground running,” Brooks said.
Before the regular council meeting convened, Carol Kearney-High, a project coordinator from the community development department at SEDA-COG, led the first public hearing on the Community Development Block Grant.
This hearing is the first of many in the process to decide upon a project to apply for the 2026 Community Development Block Grant funding.
Council members shared that they intend to use the potential 2026 grant funds for turnout gear for the Lewistown Fire Department.
Following Monday’s public hearing, the council must select and vote on a project by its June 8 meeting.
“The fire department project is a good one, so we’ll move forward getting the application ready for you all to see in the summer,” Kearney-High said.
The borough council will meet next at 4:30 p.m. on May 11 at the Lewistown Municipal Building in the council chambers.
Further information regarding Monday’s meeting will be available in a future edition of The Sentinel.
