Geisinger diabetes program earns renewed accreditation from ADA

DANVILLE — Geisinger’s adult diabetes self-management education and support program has received renewed accreditation from the American Diabetes Association.

The recognition, granted through the ADA’s Education Recognition Program, indicates that Geisinger’s educational services meet national standards for diabetes self-management education and support.

“It’s been a pleasure and a privilege watching this program develop and blossom,” said Dr. Brian Jameson, Geisinger division chief of endocrinology. “ADA accreditation highlights the fact that our patients receive high-quality, reliable information in a manner that is tailored to their needs.”

Geisinger offers both in-person and virtual education sessions covering topics such as lifestyle changes, nutrition counseling, exercise planning, medication management, glucose control, insulin therapy and managing complications related to diabetes.

Stacy Coolbaugh, director of clinical nutrition at Geisinger, said the renewed accreditation reflects the system’s commitment to providing evidence-based care.

“Renewing this accreditation reinforces our commitment to deliver high-quality, evidence-based diabetes care,” Coolbaugh said. “It’s a meaningful affirmation of our team’s dedication to the patients and communities we serve.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 40 million people in the United States have diabetes, making education about managing the condition an important part of care.
