‘Liberty bell’ unveiling slated for Friday

PHILIPSBURG — The unveiling and dedication for the liberty bell in Philipsburg will be held at 1:45 p.m. Friday at the corner of Presqueisle and Front Streets, 12 N. Front Street.

The event commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026. Accordingly, the America 250 PA Commission has set a goal of presenting a replica of the Liberty Bell in every one of Pennsylvania’s 67 Counties.

The Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial was established by the state legislature and the governor in 2018 to plan, encourage, develop, and coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, Pennsylvania’s integral role in that event, and the impact of its people on the nation’s past, present, and future.

Bells Across PA has given artists across the Commonwealth the opportunity to decorate a three-foot fiberglass bell to commemorate the upcoming Semiquincentennial. Each bell will be a unique, original piece.

The Philipsburg Historical Foundation is sponsoring the Philipsburg Liberty Bell. Local artist, Pamela Etters, designed the artwork of Philipsburg’s bell which depicts Philipsburg’s rich history.

Starting at $2.99/week.
