Coin toss decides Beaver
Township race in Snyder County
MIDDLEBURG — A coin flip has decided the winner of a deadlocked vote for Beaver Township supervisor in Snyder County last week. Incumbent Nelson Narehood, a Republican, and Independent Roger Rice each received 91 votes in the Nov. 4 general election for the six-year term.
Neither petitioned the court for a recount so, according to state law, the race was decided by casting of lots, which can involve a coin toss, picking numbers out of a bag, even playing a board game.
Before Snyder County Commissioner Joe Kantz tossed the coin into the air, Narehood called tails. The toss landed in Rice’s favor. And the election was resolved.
