HARRISBURG -- The total number of Labor Day weekend crashes was down by nearly 100 in Pennsylvania, according to statistics provided by the Pennsylvania State Police.
Statistics show there were 580 total crashes in 2024, compared to last year's 671. Of those crashes, there were five fatal crashes in which six people were killed, compared to last year's eight crashes in which 10 individuals were killed.
The report states that 170 people were injured over the four-day Labor Day holiday this year, compared to last year's 220.
Police said there were 65 DUI crashes this year, with three DUI-related fatal crashes compared to last year's 61, with two DUI-related fatal crashes.
Troopers arrested 514 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs this year, which was on par to 2023 statistics.
Police also issued 7,069 citations for speeding, 889 for failing to wear a seatbelt, and 121 for not securing children in safety seats this year.
In 2023, police issued 9,110 speeding citations, 233 child seat citations and 864 seat belt citations.
