Overdose awareness event set to take place in Lewistown

LEWISTOWN — The Dream Center, based in Burnham, plans to hold the third annual overdose awareness event on Saturday, July 12. It will be held at the corner of South Main and Elizabeth streets, across from Kish Bank, in Lewistown.

The event is set to take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is open to the public. The event is held each year to honor lives lost, offer support to those who may be struggling and provide education to prevent future overdoses.

Director Cheryl Dews detailed, “It is a deeply personal mission rooted in love, faith and community healing.”

The event will feature a selection of music, free food, resource tables, food vendors and activities for families. Groups from New Life Church and Calvary Bible will be in attendance as a praise team in order for opportunity for fellowship, prayer, and connection to support services. Dews described, “We aim to create a space that is both uplifting and informative.”

The event is open to the general public and offers support for those who struggle or have previously struggled with addiction, support for anyone who has lost a loved one due to addiction, or anyone looking to learn more about addiction, recovery, and support services.

This event is extremely important to Dews, she explained, “This event is personal because of the loss of family and friends I’ve experienced due to addiction. It’s a way to honor those we’ve lost, support those still struggling, and shine a light on the path to recovery through God’s love.”

Overdose awareness is a topic that anyone can be informed on, “Awareness saves lives,” Dews explained, “This event helps bring attention to the real and present drug epidemic in our area. When people are informed and connected, it reduces stigma and opens the door to help and hope.”

“We hope attendees leave with a greater understanding of the overdose crisis, knowledge of available resources, and a renewed sense of hope. Our prayer is for fewer overdoses, more lives changed, and a stronger, more compassionate community,” Dews explained, “people should attend to be part of the solution, to gain awareness, find support, and see firsthand how faith and community can make difference. We believe this event can be a turning point for many.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
