MOUNT UNION -- The Community Summer Band will provide free outdoor concerts for its 34th season in honor of former members Vin Dandrea and Bill Crownover, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Sharrar House in Mount Union (rain location, Mount Union High School); Thursday, July 24 at Blair Park in Huntingdon (rain location Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church) and Friday, July 25 on the lawn of the Memorial Library in Alexandria (rain location, JV high school). For outdoor concerts, audience members should plan to bring chairs or blankets for seating.
The Band, under the direction of John Kuehl, Rick Kane and Jordan Canner, will play a variety of music covering various genres.
This year's participants include on flute/piccolo: Carol Fultz, Heather Kelly, Marsha Kyper, Cheryl Latten, Evie Renne, Lane Smith, Erin States and Emma Viener; Clarinet: Michael Baker, Janet Berlin, Marie Daschbach, Linda Greenich, Marsha Hunter, Cathy Lingenfelter, Terri McCorkle, Ellen Miller, John, Karen and Will Nichols and Jack Prendergast; Bass Clarinet: Marilyn Erb; Violin/Oboe: Reagan Smith, Amy Harper; Tenor Sax: Carol Barber; Alto Sax: Mallory Goodman, Kara Harper and Chelsey Lane; Bari Sax: Eric O'Banion; Trumpet: Brett and Jonathan Basom, Jordan Canner, Hannah Corbin, Rosanna Corbin, Denise Jones, Pam and Rick Kane, Joe Kerestan, Bill Lamberson and Brittany Rhodes; French Horn: Cindy Brocket, Tara Donahue, Katelyn Harper, Gray Kane, and Jeff Hewitt; Trombone: Mike Bliss, Kevin and Caleb Donahue, and Aaron Dayao; Baritone Horn/Euphonium: Leigh Hurtz and Rick Long; Tuba: Ian Dixon and Matthew Hoover; Percussion: JT DiMaggio, Jim Latten, Brendan McCorkle, Lisa Stoner and Brayden Wood.
Contributions made by audience members are used to purchase music and help offset other band expenses. The band is open for participation by any adult instrumentalist and youth instrumentalists referred by their band director or private instructor. The Band holds rehearsals in Huntingdon from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays during the months of June and July, then disbands until the next season. For more information, call or text (814) 251-4038.
