LEWISTOWN -- The Mifflin County School Board of Directors met during a special meeting Tuesday to discuss updated transportation contracts among other important personnel news.
With directors John E. Knepp and Richard A. Smeltz absent from the special meeting, the board conducted a roll call vote on transportation items following an approximately 40-minute long executive session about five minutes into the 6:30 p.m. meeting, lengthy public comment, and board discussion regarding personnel matters.
All directors except for those absent agreed to rescind the agreements for pupil transportation for bus contractors including Fisher Brothers, Inc., J&L Rhone Services, LLC, K.V. Bus Line, Rhodes Bus Co., and Yoder Tourways, Inc. that were previously approved on March 27, for a period of five years.
Superintendent Vance Varner explained that the district did not settle a contract with Krise Transportation in March but after a request for proposal process, the bus contractor then settled on a contract with the district.
According to Varner, the Mifflin County School District's Board of Directors then discussed and agreed that the other bus contractors should have contracts that mirror the Krise Transportation contract.
With their March bus contracts now null and void, the board of directors accepted revised agreements for student transportation for bus contractors including Fisher Brothers, Inc., J&L Rhone Services, LLC, K.V. Bus Line, Rhodes Bus Co., and Yoder Tourways, Inc. for a period of five years from July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2030.
All six contractors including Krise Transportation now have a contract with Mifflin County School District to be fully utilized for the district's transportation needs.
