Portion of Susquehanna River to be restricted during air show
HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) is alerting boaters that access to a portion of the Susquehanna River will be restricted from May 22-25, during the upcoming Air Dot Show Tour at Harrisburg International Airport, Dauphin County.
For the safety of the public and air show participants, buoys will be placed in the river to mark a temporary exclusion zone which includes the immediate area adjacent to the airport runway and extends to mid-river. Waterways Conservation Officers and other security personnel will be present in the area to redirect boat traffic around the exclusion zone, as necessary. Unauthorized persons and boats who enter the restricted area will result in a delay in air show operations and could be subject to fines and penalties.
High school sets graduation location
LEWISTOWN — Pending no more school cancellations, Mifflin County High School’s 2025 Commencement will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 at Mitchell Field.
In the event of inclement weather, the commencement would be at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at Mitchell Field. In the event of inclement weather on Thursday, commencement would be moved indoors to the Mifflin County High School gymnasium at 6 p.m. Parents of graduating seniors would be notified via SKYLERT of any changes related to commencement activities.
Community band to begin rehearsals
HUNTINGDON — The Community Summer Band will begin rehearsals for its 34th season from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 2 in the social hall of the First Baptist Church, 6th and Mifflin Streets, Huntingdon. The group will hold eight rehearsals in preparation for old-fashioned outdoor band concerts scheduled for Tuesday, July 22 at Sharrar House, Mount Union, Thursday, July 24 at Huntingdon’s Blair Park and Friday, July 25 on the lawn of the Memorial Library in Alexandria. This year’s concerts will be dedicated to former longtime members Vin Dandrea and Bill Crownover who both have passed away.
The band plays a variety of music including marches, jazz, medleys and show tunes and is conducted by John Kuehl, with assistance from Huntingdon Music Department staff members Rick Kane, Jordan Canner. Those considering participating should know that they need not be present at all rehearsals or available to play all concerts to become involved and that instruments are available for loan.
