Belleville VFW Memorial Day parade and ceremony
BELLEVILLE -- This Memorial Day marks the 79th year for Stroup-Alexander VFW Post 5935 in Belleville to remember veterans with a church service, a parade and a Memorial Day service.
The public is invited to the church service on Sunday, May 25 at West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, W. Main St., Belleville. The service starts at 9:30 a.m. Veterans can meet at 9 a.m. in the social room for light refreshments prior to service.
The annual parade through Belleville is sponsored by Stroup-Alexander VFW Post 5935 and will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26. The parade forms at the St. John's Lutheran Church at the west end of town and proceeds to the post home located on Main Street. The memorial service starts at the conclusion of the parade at the post home.
Thomas L. Fletcher Jr., United States Army Air Force WWII veteran, will be the Grand Marshall for this year's parade. He is a life member of Stroup-Alexander VFW Post 5935.
This year's speaker for the 79th ceremony at the Belleville VFW on Memorial Day will be MSgt. Wm. Jermiah Carson. Carson is a native son of Belleville.
