MIFFLINTOWN -- In an age when the price of everything is going up, up, up - gasoline, groceries and household bills - the Friends of the Juniata County Library have planned a giveaway for their bounty of books.
Free books? Yes, the Friends will be offering stacks of adult and young adult fiction and non-fiction books from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 19, in the Virginia Swartz Community Room at the Juniata County Library, 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown.
Friends of the Juniata County Library Publicity Chairperson Virginia Haubert said the Friends wanted to give back to the community that has "generously supported them."
Additionally at the giveaway, there will also be audio books, magazines, CDs and DVDs. Of particular interest is a boxed set of "National Geographic" magazines from 40 years ago.
"Since the Friends have limited shelf space, especially for non-fiction and young adult books, they want to offer their overflow books free to the community," Haubert added.
Patrons are asked to bring their own bags or boxes - the bigger the better because there is no limit to the number of books a person can take.
"This is a one-day event, so come early and load up on summer reading material," Haubert said.
