Directors nominated to committees
LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County School Board of Directors met Thursday evening to nominate directors to fill seats on the curriculum and professional development committee and the policy committee in addition to other business.
Board President Rose Salvo asked for any nominations for the policy committee, seeing none she volunteered to fill the vacant seat on that committee.
Because Salvo is currently serving on the curriculum and professional development committee, another director had to fill the seat. After a few minutes of jovial discussion between directors, it was decided that Director Brent Erb would fill the seat.
Earlier during the Committee of the Whole meeting, Salvo shared that the Mifflin County High School took a trip to New York City to watch the Broadway show “The Great Gatsby.” Salvo said students met actors Sarah Hyland, of “Modern Family” fame, who plays Daisy and Michael Maliakel who plays Nick Carraway.
The board president expressed her gratitude to all the advisors and faculty who made it possible for students to have these experiences.
Superintendent Vance Varner then shared that Mifflin County School District varsity softball had their first game at the First Quality Field since the field was finished in the effort to complete the Multi-Sports Facilities Project.
Varner added that upcoming budget meetings are at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, and Monday, May 19, at the administration building, 201 Eighth Street, Lewistown.
Later, Director of Building and Grounds Tom White said that the track was paved Thursday, which went well. Pending any inclement weather, White said the track should be surfaced on May 5.
