MIFFLINTOWN -- The National 4-H Congress is an annual event that dates back more than a century, bringing together the top 4-H members from around the country to celebrate their achievements, develop leadership skills, and foster a sense of community.
And the Juniata Valley was well represented.
Two Juniata County 4-H members had the honor of attending the prestigious National 4-H Congress held recently in Atlanta, Ga.
Morgan Imes, of Honey Grove and daughter of Lyndon V. Imes and Heather Imes, and Jamie Walters, of Doylesburg, Franklin County, and daughter of Mike and Katie Walters, made the trip and engaged in leadership workshops, community service projects, and exciting tours of downtown Atlanta.
Walters participates in the Juniata County chapter because it’s the closest to her home in upper Franklin County.
This year’s congress featured a variety of activities, including interactive workshops, guest speakers, and hands-on community service opportunities.
“Our youth had the incredible opportunity to network with peers from diverse backgrounds, learn from experienced mentors, and contribute positively to the Atlanta community,” said Emily Shoop, Juniata County 4-H Educator. “This experience has not only enhanced their leadership abilities but also inspired them to make a lasting impact in our local community.”
The two 4-H members also participated in several community service projects, including Books for Africa, which emphasized the importance of giving back and making a difference. Additionally, they explored the vibrant cultural and historical sites of Atlanta, gaining a deeper appreciation for the city’s rich heritage.
Shoop said this remarkable experience would not have been possible without the support of the George Settlemyer Juniata County 4-H Fund.
The dedication and commitment of our 4-H youth and volunteers, coupled with the invaluable opportunities provided by the National 4-H Congress, underscore the importance of fostering leadership and community involvement in our future generations.
