REEDSVILLE -- A 2002 Indian Valley High School graduate has announced his candidacy for Brown Township supervisor.

Matthew Parkes graduated from Penn State University where he earned his real estate license while working as a research technician at the animal sciences research.

In 2009, Parkes became a licensed real estate agent and earned his real estate broker's license in 2017. In 2020, Parkes established RE/MAX Together, securing a long-established historic location in Reedsville for my office--a site known by many as Sarah Markers or the Reedsville Country Store.

Over his 16-year career, Parkes has built a reputation as a dedicated real estate professional and community advocate. He has been recognized as the top sales agent in Mifflin County for several years, and remains committed to the community by living in Reedsville. He also serves on the Reedsville Community Board and recently served as second chair on the Apple Fest committee for 2024, contributing to the growth and vibrancy of our community.

"In deciding to run for supervisor, I have focused on two critical issues: the state of our economy and the challenges of small community living. I believe it is essential for a municipality like Brown Township to create an environment that supports the residents and businesses. By fostering growth, encouraging future development, and honoring our history, we can build a community that truly listens to its people," Parkes said.

"My experience in real estate sales and management, combined with my background at Penn State and active involvement on community boards and association committees, has given me a well-rounded perspective in financial planning, negotiation, and decision-making. As your supervisor, I will rigorously review our budget to implement cost-effective measures, seek external funding and grants to support community programs, emphasize fiscal responsibility while promoting sustainable growth, and work diligently to preserve the rich history of Brown Township while planning for a modern future."

Parkes continued, "I am confident that I am the best candidate for this position because of my deep local roots, extensive professional expertise, proven leadership, and unwavering commitment to our community. As a lifelong resident of Reedsville, I understand our community's needs and values. My background in real estate has sharpened my skills in financial planning, negotiation, and strategic decision-making. My active involvement in local boards and events demonstrates my dedication to improving our township, and my track record of success shows that I can bring that same level of excellence to the role of supervisor."

The primary election is May 20.
