Anderson to serve as new YMCA director

BEAVER SPRINGS — The Middlecreek Area Community YMCA welcomed an old face in a new place recently.
When the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA, based in Sunbury, conducted an extensive search for a new branch executive director at its Middlecreek Area Community facility.
When the dust cleared, a familiar face was appointed as its next leader.
In late January, Beaver Springs resident Lindsey Anderson was named as the executive director of the Middlecreek Area Community YMCA, located at 67 Elm St., Beaver Springs, where she has served in various roles including program director.
“It’s an incredible honor,” Anderson said. “The MACC (Middlecreek Area Community Center) served the community for 22 years, and now that we are with the YMCA we have access to more resources and support.
“The MAC YMCA has been such a big part of my life, and to now lead in an official capacity is both exciting and humbling,” Anderson added. “I’m eager to build on what we’ve already accomplished and continue serving this amazing community.”
Anderson stepped into the role as interim executive director in September 2024, guiding the branch through a transition period with remarkable success.
“The YMCA is more than just a fitness center; it’s a hub for community, wellness and personal growth,” Anderson explained.
“Ensuring that we provide a welcoming environment for people of all ages and backgrounds is my top priority,” Anderson added. “We want every member of our community to feel supported.”
Her commitment to the MAC Y mission and her vision for its future certainly made her an invaluable asset to the organization and a qualified candidate for the job.
“We are excited about Lindsey Anderson serving in her new role as our Executive Director of the Middlecreek Area Community YMCA (MACY), our newest Branch of the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA,” said Bonita L. McDowell, chief executive officer of the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA.
“Lindsey has deep roots in this community as well as with the MACY, formerly the Middlecreek Area Community Center,” McDowell added. “The merger took place April 1, 2024. She grew up here and knows the youth and families we serve. Lindsey is a servant leader, who wants to make a lasting impact on her community and we are grateful she wants to do that through her role at the YMCA.”
YMCA officials said Anderson brings exceptional leadership skills, extensive experience and a deep passion for community service to her new role.
“Lindsey has done great work and been very committed to the mission here and now has the opportunity to grow programs and membership in new ways,” McDowell said. “We look forward to her work in this new position.”
Anderson’s connection to the MAC YMCA runs deep, having been involved with the Middlecreek Area Community Center since her youth. She has also served in various capacities, including as a childcare teacher, childcare director and, most recently, as program director.
Anderson’s passion for community engagement and her dedication to the YMCA’s growth reflect her longstanding commitment to Snyder County and beyond, officials said.
“I’ve worn many hats here — from childcare teacher to child care director to program director — and with each, I’ve seen firsthand how the YMCA transforms lives,” Anderson said.
“Whether it’s helping kids build confidence through sports, assisting seniors in staying active, or providing resources for families, the MAC YMCA has always felt like home to me,” Anderson added.
She sees a bright future for the facility, especially with it coming under the auspices of the Greater Susquehanna Valley YMCA.
“I see continued growth — expanding programs, improving our facilities and deepening our impact in the community,” Anderson said. “We’re looking at new initiatives to enhance youth engagement, strengthen wellness offerings and ensure our programs remain accessible to everyone.”
A graduate of Mount Aloysius College with a bachelor’s degree in behavioral and social science, Anderson also played collegiate soccer.
Anderson resides in Snyder County with her two sons and is actively involved in her church. Beyond her YMCA responsibilities, she has served as a coach and secretary for the Beaver Springs Little League, president of the Home and School Association and Ski Club Advisor at her sons’ school.
“Just a heartfelt thank you to our members, staff and volunteers,” Anderson said. “This is truly a team effort, and I’m excited for all that’s ahead.”
