Tuesday morning fire damages a Granville Township home

Firefighters from several local crews battle a residential structure fire on Birch Drive in Granville Township early Tuesday morning. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
STRODES MILLS — Several area crews responded to a residential structure fire in Granville Township at about 5:38 a.m. Tuesday. The house on the 200 block of Birch Drive was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived on the scene.
“There was heavy fire showing throughout the front, the garage and the living room area when crews arrived,” West Granville Deputy Fire Chief Jim Hill said. “Crews did a really great job to make an initial attack and extinguish the fire.”
No human injuries were reported. Two cats and one dog perished in the blaze.
“The homeowner said everything was okay when he left for work,” Hill said.
Cause of the fire is under investigation. Hill estimates significant damage to roughly 60% of the structure.
“We were able to find and extract several items of personal value,” he said.
Emergency crews were on the scene until approximately 7:30 a.m. Those responding included West Granville, Junction, City Hook and Ladder, Chief Logan, McVeytown, Granville, Fame, Belleville, Juniata County, Decatur, Reedsville, Newton-Wayne and Mifflintown Tanker Two.
