Whether you are still celebrating the arrival of 2025, or just looking for something to do during this first weekend of the new year, here are a few things to check out in the Juniata Valley:

Free square dancing in Mifflintown

The Heaven Bound Church in Mifflintown is hosting free square dancing for family and friends of all ages at the Mifflintown Fire Hall from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Keepin’ It Simple will be calling the event. If you can’t make this event, other events are scheduled on Feb. 1, March 1 and April 5 at the same time and location.

Shining Light Through the Darkness wraps up today

From 5 to 10 p.m. today, at Kishacoquillas Park, 1 Derry Park Drive, Lewistown, the annual holiday tradition, Shining Light Through the Darkness, wraps up for another season. The lights turn on at 5 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Walk through the beautiful Christmas light display, model train displays. All activities, including food and drink, rides, etc., are by donation. Find them on Facebook for a complete list of events.

Turkey dinner to go

The Burnham Lions Club will hold a turkey dinner from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — or until it sells out — on Sunday, at the Burnham Lions Community Building, First Avenue, Burnham. The menu includes turkey, filling, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn and green beans. Takeout only. The cost is $12 per dinner.

It’s Fun to stay

at the Y-M-C-A

• Youth basketball at Middlecreek YMCA on Saturdays: Middlecreek Area Community YMCA, 67 Elm St., Beaver Springs, will hold youth basketball games for ages pre-kindergarten through sixth grade on Saturdays. The cost is $25 for YMCA members and $35 for non-members. For more information, call (570) 658-2276.

• Juniata River Valley YMCA Afterschool Program: So, it actually starts on Monday, but the Juniata Valley YMCA, located at 105 First Ave., Burnham, has created an afterschool program for fourth- to seventh-grade students. The program is held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and offers snacks, activities, gym time, homework help and positive mentorship. It is also under 100 percent scholarship.
