Juniata County receives bomb threat

From staff reports

MIFFLINTOWN — Due to a bomb threat that Juniata County officials said Tuesday night was sent via email, the public, including a Sentinel reporter, was not permitted to enter the Juniata County Courthouse until about 8:45 p.m.

Pennsylvania State Police at Lewistown said in a release that the email was received by the elections office.

“A sweep was conducted and no device was located,” the release stated.” The “investigation continues.”

Voting disruptions seemed to stretch outside of the region.

Press and Communications Officer for the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania Stacey Witalec sent out a release to media stating that a Clearfield County judge approved an oral motion to extend voting hours to 9 p.m. in that county due to a bomb threat at the Clearfield County Administrative Building, where the votes were being counted.

Authorities in both Centre and Clearfield counties confirmed evacuations and brief disruptions of the ballot counting process.

Gov. Josh Shapiro announced that multiple bomb threats have been reported Tuesday at multiple polling locations and municipal sites throughout the state and that none have been deemed as credible.

At a 10 p.m. press conference, Pennsylvania’s Secretary Al Schmidt stated that authorities have not yet identified who made the threats but re-emphasized that none of the threats were credible.
