Commissioners recognize local women in business Tues.

MIFFLINTOWN -- President of the Business and Professional Women of Pennsylvania Danielle Shellenberger was in attendance during the Juniata Commissioners weekly meeting Tuesday to accept a proclamation recognizing Business Women's Week.

Juniata Commissioners proclaimed the week of Oct. 20-24 Business Women's Week.

During the meeting, Shellenberger told commissioners that Business and Professional Women of Pennsylvania conducts workshops for women on topics such as financial literacy and cross generational communication.

She explained that the organization sponsors leadership training and provides mentoring to women. They have an essay contest each year for seniors as well as donate books to the library.

"We are a leading advocate for working women in the state," says Shellenberger.

This month's meeting will take place during the week of the 20 through the 24, follow their Facebook for more information.

The webinar will be about women overcoming challenges and reaching new heights.

Also during the meeting, commissioners took the following action:

• Appointed Teresa O'Neil to a three-year term on the Juniata County Library Board of Trustees;

Approved the use of the County Records Improvement Fund to purchase a Precision 3680 desktop computer and a Brother ADS-3100 document scanner at a total cost of $2,170.29 for the Assessment / GIS Department;

Approved a renewal agreement between Juniata County and Delta Dental for employee dental insurance with a 0% rate increase;

Approved a purchase of service agreement between Juniata County Children and Youth Services, the Juniata County Probation Department, and Merakey;

Approved the 2024 Help America Vote Act Grant Agreement of $3,000 between the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, acting through the Department of State, and Juniata County;

Approve tax exonerations for Milford Township.
