‘Fill a Glass with Hope’ helps to provide milk to the needy

2 min read

Hi! My name is Ella Zimmerman, and I am a dairy maid for Juniata County Dairy Promotion.

Have you heard of the "Fill a Glass with Hope" program? Fill a Glass with Hope was launched statewide at the 100th PA Farm Show in 2016. It raises funds for our local food banks so they can purchase milk to give out to families in need. Milk is one of the most requested items at food banks, yet it is rarely donated. Each year, we help raise funds for this program to give back to our local community. Last year, we donated $4,000 to the Juniata County Food Pantry so they could purchase milk to be distributed to our neighbors in need.

Throughout the year, we raise funds to give back to this program. Last year, our proceeds from the Chicken BBQ fundraiser went to Fill a Glass with Hope. We also donated some of our profit we made from the milkshake trailer (that can be found at the Juniata County Fair) to Fill a Glass with Hope. If you would like to help with this very worthy cause, you can donate at any time throughout the year when you see us out and about promoting dairy products.

Below is a recipe I'd like to share with you that uses a cup of milk and a few other dairy products. I like to eat this soup with a very cheesy grilled cheese sandwich.

Baked potato-

cheddar soup

• 2--10 ¾ oz cans cream of potato soup

• 2--15 oz cans sliced potatoes, drained

• 1 pint whipping cream

• 1 cup milk

• 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Pour soup, potatoes, whipping cream and milk into an ungreased casserole dish. Mix well. Cover and bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes to one hour until heated thoroughly. Serve with cheese on top.

Starting at /week.
