MCCLURE -- An 11-year-old unidentified McClure male was life flighted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with suspected serious injuries after he ran out onto Stage Road in Spring Township and was struck by an oncoming vehicle at 4:29 p.m. Friday, according to a Public Information Release Report issued by Pennsylvania State Police on Saturday.
Police said the 11-year-old male ran from the north side to the south and did not use a crosswalk. While doing so, a 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by Collin G. Hoffman, 20, of McClure, was traveling west on Stage Road, police said. Upon making it halfway across the roadway, the 11-year-old male turned back and began running back toward the north side of the roadway again, police said.
The report said Hoffman could not stop and swerved off the north side of the roadway. The report added while doing so, Hoffman struck the 11-year-old male as well as a mailbox. Hoffman was wearing a seat belt at the time.
