LEWISTOWN -- The Sacred Heart School in Lewistown is having a birthday party of sorts, and everyone's invited.
To celebrate the upcoming milestone, the Sacred Heart School 75th Anniversary Street Fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, near downtown Lewistown.
"We had a group of parents, alumni and supporters of our school that wanted to commemorate the anniversary of our school, and this is the event they came up with," said Ashley Henry, advancement director at Sacred Heart School.
"We've never done anything like this before," she added.
The street fair, which will begin in the upper-level parking lot of the former Bon-Ton building and stretches all the way up the hill to the school, located at 110 N. Dorcas St.
There will be plenty of carnival games, food trucks, bingo, bounce house, tours of the school, wine garden and flower sale.
"There are activities for all ages," Henry said. "We're hoping (for a big turnout). It's in a prime location."
Admission to the street fair is free; however, there will be costs to play the games.
Seventy-five years is certainly an impressive milestone for the Mifflin County school.
"We are doing well," Henry added. "We're accepting enrollment for the next school year, with scholarships and financial aid available."
She also credited the dedication of the staff for the school's longevity. "We've got teachers who have been here for 28 years, who are now in their fourth years as co-directors," Henry said of Deborah Henry and Lorie Torquato. "We also have several families that are third-generation alums."
