LEWISTOWN -- A 19-year-old was jailed Tuesday after police said he assaulted a two-month old child.
Alex Kristopher Page, of Lewistown, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Kent Smith on charges of felony aggravated assault of a person less than 13, felony endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanor simple assault and misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person for incidents dating back to October 2023.
According to the Affidavit of Probable Cause, in the evening of Oct. 10, 2023, the child's mother and a housemate took a friend to the emergency room, leaving the child with Page. The report says Page called the child's mother, "screaming at her on the phone," to come home as the baby cried in the background.
The report says the mother left the emergency room to check on the baby, but when she arrived, the child was sleeping and did not wake up upon having a diaper change.
Police said the mother reported changes to the infant's behavior over the next few days, including sleeping more and not eating as much. The report says the child vomited on Oct. 14, which prompted an emergency room visit.
Medical records showed the child had two fractures at the base of its skull. The child was airlifted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for examination and treatment, where she stayed for three days.
Medical examiners noted that the infant's injuries were non-accidental trauma that occurred a couple of days prior and had no medical explanation.
During the investigation, police said 13 in-depth interviews were conducted and that Page exhibited deceptive behaviors and revealed many discrepancies between interviews.
"Page was very inconsistent concerning the physical condition and behavior of the baby while in his care," the report says.
Page is being held in Mifflin County Correctional Facility, unable to post $500,000 bail. He is awaiting a preliminary hearing set for 9 a.m. May 22 before Smith in Mifflin County Central Court.
