REEDSVILLE -- Who doesn't love the circus, especially the clowns? Well, Olena and Vandeir Reis, owners of the Lewis and Clark Circus, might prefer the high-wire acts.
That's because the couple met in 2003 and fell in love while on tour with the Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus. Lena, originally from Ukraine, worked as an aerialist and Vandeir, a Brazil native, worked as a professional acrobat. Eventually, the two found themselves with the
opportunity to buy a circus.
In 2013, they bought the Lewis and Clark Circus, which is scheduled to make a stop at the Mifflin County Youth Park, 110 E. Logan St., Reedsville, on tonight and Tuesday.
Tonight's show starts at 6 p.m., while two shows are scheduled for Tuesday at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Each show lasts about 1 hour, 40 minutes.
"This is your chance to witness one of the last traditional tent shows left in America," the circus' website read. "Our mission is to provide children of all ages with the opportunity to experience the magic of the circus.
"Combining old-time circus traditions with modern innovations, our show will leave you on the edge of your seat," it added. "Our show features world-class aerialists, acrobats, magicians and more under our custom built big top."
And now, after 11 years on the road and thousands of shows later, they're sharing a circus life, full of adventures by traveling to 10 to 15 states per season. Thrilling audiences in more than 100 towns to earn its place as one of America's greatest family circuses.
"The Lewis and Clark Circus was built by our family for your family," the site continued. "Join us on a journey where men fly, women contort, and the audience forgets about the outside world for 90 minutes on non-stop circus action."
Family passes, which include two adults and up to four kids, cost $42.99 and are only sold online. Single tickets for adults are $19.99 and include one free child's ticket. Single tickets for children are $8.99. Discounts are available for tickets purchased in advance and online.
