Several trout stockings postponed ahead of opening day
HARRISBURG -- The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is alerting anglers that due to high water conditions, several trout stockings scheduled for this week in Centre, Clinton and Potter counties, were postponed. As a result, the impacted stream sections will not receive stocked trout prior to the statewide Opening Day of Trout Season on Saturday, April 6. These waters include:
Centre County; Pine Creek, Section 02
Centre County; White Deer Creek, Section 02
Clinton County; Kettle Creek, Sections 10 and 11
Clinton/Potter counties; Kettle Creek, Section 09
Pending improved conditions, the impacted stream sections are scheduled to be stocked with trout during the week of April 8-12. Anglers who were planning to fish these stream sections on Opening Day and during the first several days of trout season should review the Trout Stocking Schedule to locate alternate waters that have already been stocked.
Rainbow summer accepting applications
LEWISTOWN -- The LUMINA Center is accepting applications for Rainbow Summer 2024.
The program runs Monday through Friday during the summer months from June to August. The programs are held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include Bible time, songs, games, group challenges, service projects, swimming and/or water games and breakfast, lunch and snacks. The theme is ROAR: Life is Wild.
Call (717) 242-2888 to schedule a registration appointment between April 22 and May 4. A $10 registration fee is due at the appointment.
CareerLink to offer job seeker resources
LEWISTOWN -- CareerLink of Mifflin County will offer a Community Empowerment Fair from 1 to 3 p.m. April 18 at its MCIDC Plaza location, 6395 state Route 103 N.
The purpose of the fair is to help jobseekers overcome barriers to employment by connecting them with community resources and CareerLink services. Attendees will have access to support and guidance to navigate their employment journey. Challenges faced by jobseekers include transportation, childcare, rent, addiction, criminal background, lack of identification, lack of high school diploma and more.
The fair will feature a range of resources, including: the Area Agency on Aging, Call-A-Ride, Centre for Community Action, Early Learning Resources Center, First National Bank, Juniata Valley Behavioral and Developmental Services: HMJ Employment Coalition, LIFE Geisinger, Mifflin County Assistance Office, Mifflin Juniata Human Services, Shelter Services, Pennie and Tri-County Drug & Alcohol.
PA CareerLink® career services assist a wide array of jobseekers. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with representatives from these organizations and access one-on-one assistance to develop personalized employment plans.
Walk-in jobseekers are welcome. Door prizes will be available.
