YEAGERTOWN - Whether you're a seasoned runner (or reader) or simply seeking a leisurely stroll, there's something for everyone at the first-ever Lewistown Read and Run.
Hosted by the Primary Health Network Charitable Foundation, the Lewistown Read and Run is a vibrant five-kilometer run/walk and book drive.
The 5k run and Just Walk events, organized to benefit PHN's literacy initiatives in the community, will be held at the Lewistown Community Health Center, 106 Derry Heights Blvd., Yeagertown, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18. Registration will start at 9:30 a.m.
"Your participation in this inaugural Read and Run isn't just a run - it's an opportunity to be part of something extraordinary," PHN officials said in a press release. "By joining us, you play a pivotal role in supporting our literacy initiatives across the counties served by Primary Health Network."
With picturesque views of the surrounding mountains, organizers say the Lewistown Read and Run guides runners through the charming side streets of Yeagertown. Hills and inclines add a challenging aspect to the race, which begins and ends at the PHN's Lewistown Community Health Center.
The post-race celebration features an awards ceremony at 11:15 a.m., live DJ, light meal, children's book drive and a 50/50 cash raffle.
Any participant who brings a new or gently used children's book to donate to PHN's Little Free Library at Kishacoquillas Park, Lewistown, will receive a free ticket for the 50/50 drawing when you purchase a set of five. There is a limit of one of each ticket per participant.
"Come create lasting memories with us, knowing that your involvement is a catalyst for positive change in our community," the release added. "Prepare for an unforgettable event that blends the joy of reading with the warmth of community connection."
A Book Lover's Lunch will also be provided. It's also available to non-race participants for $12. All participants will receive a cooling scarf to use after the race, while supplies last.
